Does anyone else have, like, A Thing about putting good numbers into your crafting?
Like:
– I need to cast on between 120 and 130 stitches for this to fit me, so should it be 125 because it’s a cube or 128 because it’s a power of 2?
– The pattern has six repeats in a row, so it should be six repeats high.
– I need to cast on a random number of stitches for a test, so let’s make sure it’s a prime number.
– If in doubt, round it to a multiple of 5 because 5 is a Friendly Number.
Primes and prime factors of large numbers are soothing.
My favorite sweater had a cast on of 583 sts. Which leaves only 3 prime factors, 1, 11, and 53, which is also a prime number of factors. So while 583 is not prime it’s factors are and they’re wild anyway. Which makes the sweater even more comfortable because of their uniqueness.
‘Fraid so. Personally, multiples of 9 and 12 seem to work for me.
Yep, unless I’m following a pattern. I end up in 3 and its multiples a lot. Same with 5s.
But the current Baby Blanket I Just Made Up is ALL multiples of 3… even my vanilla socks technically fall into that (because I knit 60-stitch socks for my dainty dainty feets 😂)
